Miata Forged Engine Build in a Box

After years of building reliable high horsepower Miatas, these are the parts I've settled on for customers with goals of 250 to 400 wheel horsepower. The kit takes a stock NA or NB Miata engine to a fully forged setup, and it's offered for the 1.6 B6 short nose and long nose, the 1.8 BP, the NB1 BP4W and the NB2 VVT.

It assumes you're working with a reputable machine shop. Every kit comes with a PDF of the clearances I use for machine work and the break in procedure to follow.

The combination is set, and the core setup is good for up to 400 wheel horsepower on 93 octane with the right turbo and a good tune. If you want a different configuration, reach out, though I strongly recommend sticking with this one. It keeps the stock camshafts, springs, valves and retainers, which give the best response in a high horsepower street Miata.

The kit includes:

• Supertech forged pistons
• Wiseco XX piston rings
• Manley forged rods
• ARP head studs and main studs
• Race main, rod and thrust bearings in standard size (OEM thrust bearing on VVT)
• Engine freeze plug kit and oil galley plug kit
• Complete genuine gasket set with a Cometic head gasket
• Gates water pump and Gates timing belt kit
• Fluidampr harmonic balancer (not included for the 1.6 short nose)
• 36-2 trigger wheel
• New lower timing cover kit
• NGK spark plugs in a turbo heat range
• Supermiata coolant reroute kit
• Boundary Stage 2 oil pump
• OEM crank bolt and crank key
• RTV, assembly lube, oil filters, bolt marker, Plastigauge and a piston ring compressor

The Fluidampr doesn't fit the short nose 1.6, so it's left out of that kit. On the long nose 1.6, running the Fluidampr means switching your water pump pulley and alternator to the 1994 to 1997 ribbed belt setup, which isn't included.
