If you've ever watched your timing marks wander while setting base timing, the rubber has probably come unbonded and the pulley isn't damping anything anymore.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eA Fluidampr uses an inertia ring suspended in very thick silicone fluid. As the crankshaft sees shear stress and NVH from not being perfectly balanced, the ring absorbs it and turns it into heat in the fluid. A good engine builder balances the rotating assembly so the engine runs smoothly and lasts longer, and a Fluidampr is the next step after that.
